webinar graphic Archived Webinar: Controversies in Coding

Coding is an important and complex task that all medical practices have to do in order to receive appropriate reimbursement and stay in compliance. You strive hard to code accurately. But there are rule changes and a variety of opinions that make coding more confusing.

The American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives (AAOE), the practice management arm of the Academy, presents this webinar to dispel inaccurate information and guide you toward more accurate coding practices.

In this 60 minute archived webinar you’ll learn:

  • The most commonly disputed coding practices in ophthalmology
  • The best approach to take when faced with such coding challenges
  • Factors that may lead to confusion and misinformation in ophthalmic coding

Topics include:

  • Who can document the History of Present Illness (HPI)?
  • When can/should I unbundle CCI edits with modifier -59?
  • When is it appropriate to bill an exam the same day as an intravitreal injection?
  • Can my specialty-trained colleagues bill for visits during the global period when there is a surgical complication?
  • Should I be paid for the interim exam between cataract surgeries?
  • When appending modifier -78, what defines a dedicated procedure room?
  • Is there a way to be paid for suture removal?
